One day in Umm Qais

One day in Umm Qais

screenshot_20161118-170143Stunning Greek-Roman ruins with a view on Israel‘s Sea of Galilee/Lake of Tiberias and Syria‘s Golan Heights. Umm Qais (or Qays)/Gadara is there: in the middle of everything, where it all used to be one.

To me, it felt like a little Jerash, with added geographical and historical relevance, and that extra detail of the predominance of basalt stone, which I personally find super charming.

Further highlights of the day were excellent company, incredible food at the only restaurant within the archeological area, and seeing women sing and dance on top of the amphitheatre!
